Fertility-boosting Supplements Every Woman Should Consider

When trying to conceive, women change their diet in such a manner that it increases their chances of pregnancy. Supplements help in providing some essential nutrients that are otherwise skipped in meals. They help to improve egg quality, balance hormones, and prepare the body for conception. Some of the best fertility-boosting supplements every woman should consider are:

Table of Contents

Toggle
  • 1. Folic Acid
  • 2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids
  • 3. Iron
  • 4. Magnesium
  • 5. Vitamin D
  • 6. Probiotics

1. Folic Acid

One such nutrient that every woman who is trying to conceive should add to their diet is folic acid. This essential vitamin supports cell division and DNA synthesis, which are important for the early stages of pregnancy. Taking folic acid before conception reduces the risk of tube defects. It is also available naturally in food items such as leafy vegetables, etc. If you are someone who is thinking of starting a family, consuming folic acid three months prior is recommended.

2. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are important for reproductive health. They improve blood flow to reproductive organs, reduce inflammation, and help balance out hormones. Omega 3 is ideal for brain development during pregnancy. Women can get omega-3 naturally from fatty fish like salmon, but supplements like fish oil are excellent alternatives. Aim for at least 200-300 mg of DHA daily.

3. Iron

Iron deficiency is something that affects ovulation and overall fertility. Women that have low iron levels may experience irregular periods, which makes it hard for them to conceive. Iron helps in the production of haemoglobin that carries oxygen to reproductive tissues. Taking in iron from natural sources like meat, lentils, and spinach is good, but supplements are often necessary for women with low iron content.

4. Magnesium

To reduce stress and balance hormones, magnesium is vital. Stress can have a negative effect on fertility levels by disrupting the menstrual cycle. When you consume magnesium, it calms down the nervous system and reduces stress. Magnesium supports muscle function that includes uterine muscles that help in implantation. Food items like nuts, seeds, and whole grains have magnesium, but taking supplements is recommended.

5. Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays a vital role in maintaining ovarian health. If there is a deficiency in vitamin D, then it leads to complications during pregnancy. When you consume a good amount of vitamin D, it improves the uterus lining and makes it more open to embryo implantation. Sunlight is one of the best sources of vitamin D, but supplements ensure that the adequate levels are accomplished.

6. Probiotics

Gut health is an important factor to consider when it comes to fertility. Probiotics are necessary to balance out the bacteria in the gut and reproductive tract. They also reduce inflammation and improve the absorption of nutrients. Probiotics also help prevent infections and maintain vaginal health. They are present in fermented food items like yogurt, paneer, green peas, buttermilk, etc.

So, if you are somebody who is trying to conceive, then adding these supplements to your diet can actually make a big difference.
